Tomas Reyes built this team from one van in 2013 to what it is now: a group of people who actually know the difference between a plenum (the main distribution box above your furnace) and a piece of flex duct that got crushed by a careless installer in 1987. Marcus has been running duct cleaning jobs in Montgomery County for eleven years, the last six with CleanRun. He holds NADCA certification in HVAC inspection and cleaning, and he’s the technician Tomas calls when a job involves an older home in Rockville’s West End with original galvanized ductwork that hasn’t been touched since the Carter administration. Marcus specializes in negative-pressure extraction (pulling debris out with a vacuum attached to the main trunk, rather than blowing it around your house). His human detail: he keeps a collection of “artifacts” pulled from ducts - a 1978 newspaper, a child’s toy soldier, a wedding ring that got returned to a very relieved customer in Twinbrook. He’ll show you the photos if you ask. He does not recommend DIY duct cleaning, especially in homes with asbestos-wrapped pipes; he’s seen what happens when a homeowner rents a shop vac and punches through the wrong thing.
Darnell K. - Senior Installer, Duct Repair & Sealing
Darnell joined CleanRun in 2019 after eight years doing commercial HVAC installation in Baltimore. He handles the duct repair and sealing side of our work, which means he’s the person crawling through attics in Rockville’s Flower Hill neighborhood to find where a duct run has separated from the boot (the metal fitting that connects duct to register). He’s certified in Aeroseal application, a process that seals leaks from the inside by blowing a vinyl polymer through the pressurized system. Darnell’s particular skill is explaining to homeowners exactly why their upstairs bedroom stays ten degrees hotter than the thermostat setting - usually a combination of poor original design and decades of settling. His human detail: he carries a small LED scope and shows customers the gap he’s about to fix, in real time, before he writes the scope. He grew up in Silver Spring and still lives there with his two kids, who think his job is “fixing house lungs.”
Sofia R. - Service Coordinator
Sofia answers the phones that Tomas insisted stay staffed by live people, not an automated system, since day one. She’s been with CleanRun since 2017 and has talked to roughly 12,000 Rockville-area homeowners about their ductwork. She schedules the jobs, sends the confirmation texts with technician photos and arrival windows, and she’s the person who calls after every job to make sure the photo record arrived and the written price matched what was promised. Sofia knows the Montgomery County permitting requirements for duct modifications in historic districts - Rockville’s West Montgomery Avenue corridor, specifically - and she flags those jobs for Darnell before he arrives. Her human detail: she keeps a spreadsheet of “mystery jobs,” calls where the homeowner’s complaint (mysterious dust, uneven heating, a smell) turned out to be something completely unexpected.
